Massive yoga book GIVEAWAY!

January 16, 2012

All these books for FREE!

Hello friends. I am so excited ! Today is the mega yoga book giveaway! WHAT?? A yoga book give away??? Yep, I have so many yoga books that I have bought duplicates of many. There are certain books that I have more than 2 copies of, I’m embarrassed to say. (although, it does speak to my love of yoga) Nevertheless, my inattention to detail is your great good fortune! I’m giving away all of these books! BOOM! In one shot.

I happen to love each one of these books very much, obviously since I keep buying them. Since I already have other copies of them I’d like for you to have these. Why? I am no longer teaching public yoga classes.
I’ve come out of the heat, and onto the kitchen and I have got to make room on my shelves for my growing collection of cook books!

Winning these amazing books is very easy. All you have to do between now and January 31, 2012 6AM Central are these very simple 3 steps. Each one of these 3 things you can do from this page.

1. Subscribe to this blog. (scroll up, there’s a box on the right of the page)

2. Comment on this post. Please tell me why you want these books. Or tell me your favorite cook book. ** comments are posting, but delayed. no worries. **  😉 dee

3. Follow me on twitter. See the little button over there on the right? (already follow on twitter? Check me out on Facebook. It’s linked here too. see the pretty f? —–>

So, the books. This is an impressive collection of books. These are all in new or almost new condition. You can see a mark or a number on each book. I did that. That is part of my library cataloguing “quick look” system. (don’t ask. let’s just say I am pretty organized. Yet, I still buy the good ones again and again.) I have chosen the least read copy of each for you. BTW, These are not your run of the mill yoga books, These are pretty nerdy, “I am waaay into yoga” yoga books. With that said, I think you will be pleased of you are into the yogas.  Below are links to each one.  Just in case you are as into it as I.

In Order of the pile pictured above:

Light on Yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar

Yoga 28 Day Exercise Plan, Richard Hittleman

Bodymind, Ken Dychtwald

The Mirror of Yoga, Richard Freeman

Chakra Healing and Karmic Awareness, Keith Sherwood

See? They are pretty nice aren’t they? So would you like to have them?
Tell me why. A winner will be chosen at random. Good luck!

Oh my goodness, this made me gasp out loud! I WOULD LOVE THESE BOOKS! Here’s why:

The only thing I love more than yoga is books. I REALLY love books. I love reading them, smelling them, studying them. looking at them, everything about them. (Did you know that i collect cookbooks? My favorite is The Art of Taste by Beatrix Rohlsen from White Lotus.)

Also, as manager of a brand new (less than a year old) studio, I am always looking for new things to add to the studio and offer my students. But, you are well aware, yoga teachers don’t make the big bucks, so our lending library is rather … well … not so much a library as it is a few lonely books looking for friends.

LOVE this contest, love you, love books, love Frank.

does being the first commenter up my chances? no, probably not. But I drool over the books, none the less. It’d be a ball peen hammer to my amazon wishlist, and amazon is a bully, so the whole world wins.

Hi Darla! Nice blog! I’ve just started a 5-week beginner yoga class last Tuesday. Loving it so far! I look forward to learn much more about yoga and I love books too. I’m interested right now in how food and exercise affect our emotions, so my favorite is Yoga for Depression, of course.

Best wishes on your new endeavor! I have some of these titles on hand for my teaching and learning and sharing with students. I am most interested in the Richard Freeman book. And those focused anatomy books sure look like fun:) They would find a good home with me!

As far as cookbooks go, so many loves, so I’ll name the one I used most recently: The Vegetarian Epicure by Anna Thomas. I have found that once tried, the recipes become ones I return to. They often look simple, but come together in a delectable way. I need to make more of them~

    Thanks for the opportunity!

Darla! Way to go and congrats on both deciding the new name (loved that journey w/ you on FB- LOL!) and following your loves! I’m a huge fan of Moosewood cookbooks, although I confess all of the recipes I have are from friend who gave them to me! I also think it’s just a necessary to have a copy of “The Joy of Cooking” as it’s basically an encyclopedia for how to prepare, preserve, and cook just about ANYthing. Of the books above that you have in your beautiful stack? What a great giveaway! Me and my Soule man have a small one bedroom apartment in NYC so please don’t send me any books! 🙂 Big love, good luck, and best wishes, Cheeks

BOOKS! As I’m always looking to expand my collection any book giveaway I’m sure to enter, but once I spotted the Mudra book and knew I should enter immediately. I lent out a copy I owned and it was to never return.

My favorite cookbook at this moment has to be my Whoopie Pie book. I’ve grown to love to bake and these “cakesters” are super fun to make. The icing/filling alone is worth all the trouble. So many variations to bake and I get to shop for tools that make baking more fun and easy!

I would love win these yoga books! I would like to go to teacher training this year and also deepen my personal practice. I’m especially interested in the anatomy books by Ray Long, I’ve heard they are excellent.

    Darla,

What a beautiful offering to your fellow yogis/foodies. I devour cookbooks like a fine meal. One of my favorite cookbooks right now is The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone. I’ve been a “healthy” eater and cook for years but have just recently taken a bigger step by introducing more vegan meals into my diet. Fish has been such a staple in my diet that I’m having a hard time saying good-bye to it. At this point I’m vegan-ish…….it’s a start right?

I am a recent certified YT (200 hr.) and am blessed to be teaching at the studio I was trained in. My love right now is teaching Middle School girls. I have this wonderful opportunity to share my love of yoga and all the beauty that comes from it with young girls as they make their way through the sometimes turbulent years of adolescence.

I am most interested in the books you have on anatomy. After reading the recent NY Times Article, “How Yoga Wrecks Your Body”, it seems more teachers should take the time to learn more about anatomy for yoga in order to protect students from injury.

Thank you again for such a generous offering. Whoever you choose to receive these books will be exactly who is supposed to receive them!

    Namaste,
    Karen

Wow – would totally love to win this collection of books!!! I have a few of these already but the yoga geek in me is hankering to read those yoga anatomy (for hip openers, backbends, etc.) books, and I really want to introduce more mudras into my classes, so these books would really help my yoga teaching to blossom.
I’ve been following you on Twitter for a long time and just followed you on Facebook.
Good luck with your new cooking venture!!!

I’d love these books because I’m getting back into yoga after about 10 years in order to help rehab some muscular and skeletal issues I’m having as well as to enhance my triathlon training. Plus, I’m going back to school to get a Master’s in Kineseology. I think yoga is very important for strength, mobility and peace of mind! Thanks!!!

As for the cookbook, I just dial up my grandma. My fiancee is the real cook of our little family unit. For the books: I am an inspiring informationophile. I don’t think that is a real word but it sums me up pretty well considering my book hoard. I have a keen interest in yoga (have for years) but as if financial issues would not have kept me from attending some formal training type classes I have conflicting schedules, children, and an unconventional working schedule for my love have kept me from it. Borrowing from the library, from friends, scoping on the internet, and “winging it” aren’t really getting me through 😦 I do have quite a few Deepak Chopra books and sincerely enjoy them. I’m sure whomever ends up w/them would make good use of them, myself included.

This is such an exciting opportunity!!! I am in the space right now where I am adding to my collection of reading materials about yoga. It has taken me a while to get into the scholarly mode of learning more about this practice that has been so integrated in my life–both on and off the matt. My partner is a yoga teacher, and I am can’t imagine my life without my practice. Having these books in our collection would be such an uplifting addition.

My favorite cookbook…well. I have to say the recipes I go to first are the handwritten one that my grandma created throughout her life. These recipes are a jewel in our family and essential to our Sicilian heritage. Further, one of the first cookbooks that I ever owned was “Heaven’s Banquet” by Miriam Kasin Hospodar–and was my first introduction to Ayurveda. And more recently, I have enjoyed reading “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian” by Mark Bittman.

    Blessings and thank you!

Bibliophile. in a very serious way. like books makes my soul happy. coincidentally.. so does yoga. As an MT with a pretty angry injury, I am looking to yoga in a new way… to heal my body. carefully. with great attention to form and anatomy AND energy. So while this pile of books would make me drool any way…. I was especially excited about them.

As for cook books…. I am a lover of The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook and The Grit Cookbook. (Did you really just ask me to pick 1 favorite book?)

I would love to have more yoga books to enhance my yoga experience. I am waaaaayyyy into yoga books too! Right now I am in my 500 hour training with a fabulous teacher in Boston MA, Barbara Benagh, and many of the books that you are offering are on my reading list. I have seen most of these from the library and would adore having my own copies to pour over and the Ray Long series, Richard Freeman and Amy Weintraub books are so desirable to inform my teaching. Thank you.

  27. January 21, 2012 10:51 am

I have been hankering for more anatomy learning lately! Would love to dive into all of those anatomy books!

And for cookbook suggestions, i plucked a used copy from Amazon of “Ayurvedic Cookibg for Westerners” by Amadea Morningstar when I first really got into yoga and cooking and loved it. Haven’t used it much lately but still remember it fondly 🙂

also, to add to my previous comment…i just finished my level one warriors at ease training and am teaching a free veteran’s yoga class at edwards church in framingham ma at 6-7:30 pm mondays. I saw your post on yoga warriors so I like the connection.

I hope to win these books to help me not only deepen my own practice, but to assist me as I move towards becoming a yoga instructor myself.

I did also follow your blog AND follow you on twitter and YAY Dobermans! We recently adopted a blue Doberman through rescue and he is absolutely the best kind of shit head.

If I choose to go I will miss you terribly and this way I can have a little bit of you with me. If I do not choose to go I will have LOTS of time to read them since I will be unemployed. Pretty good reasons to choose me, huh…
